Oral history interview with Jay Jones and Frances Jones, 1981 October 1.

Interview with Jay and Frances Jones concerning their experiences as owners and operators of Jay's Hardware in Dallas, Texas and Denton Center Hardware in Denton, Texas. Jay Jones discusses his family background, the effects of the Depression in McAlister, Oklahoma, his employment with C. & S. Hardware in Dallas in the 1950s, his experiences managing and co-owning C. & S. Hardware, the opening of Denton Center Hardware in 1963, and the business competition in Denton. He also talks about the development of Jay's Hardware in Dallas, a description of a full hardware store, the use of advertising, the sale of the business in 1979, sales growth and credit experience, and his involvement in a Krum hardware store. Frances Jones discusses her family background, her experiences in St. Jo, Texas, employing personnel for the store, her civic activities, her work in the giftware section of the store, and the operation of the family business.
